Emre Can has vowed to use the 15 games remaining this season to show his worth to Liverpool after admitting to personal disappointment over his form in 2016-17.

After the midfielder's Euro 2016 commitments with Germany resulted in a late start to pre-season, his campaign with the Reds suffered early disruption when he sustained an ankle injury in August.

Can was then forced to endure another stint on the sidelines in December due to a knee problem, though he has still clocked up 25 appearances to date in all competitions this term.

The 23-year-old does not believe he has shown his best in those games, however, and is determined to rectify that in the coming months.

"I know that I could play better and score maybe a few more goals, but it was a tough period for me as well," the midfielder told Liverpoolfc.com.

"I still [have] 15 games and I can show myself and I can show everyone that I am strong and I am a good player.

"I know I could play the season until now better, but I will come back and I will play better again."

Fans were treated to a performance reminiscent of Can's best for the club on Tuesday as Chelsea were held to a 1-1 draw at Anfield.

The German is now aiming to build on a showing that he believes can provide the confidence he has lacked at times this season.

"It gives me belief, it gives me confidence, and I have to get my confidence back, that's very important for me," he added.

"It wasn't easy for me but now I look to the future and I know what I am able to do when I'm confident enough."

One area Emre hopes to improve on specifically is his goal output.

After fellow midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum netted against Antonio Conte's men thanks to a perfectly-timed run into the box, Can has reiterated his desire to keep getting among the goals.

"It is the same [for me], when we cross I get in the box," he explained.

"The manager expects this from the midfielders, that we are always in the box and help the strikers to score a goal. That is what we try.

"We have to always look to the other players but Henderson is always there for the protection and the defenders. We have to always mix it that one player goes, the other player protects."
