Ahead of Liverpool taking on West Ham United in the Premier League, check out these 14 fascinating stats on the history between the two sides from club statistician Ged Rea.

Last season, West Ham did the league double over Liverpool for the first time since 1963-64 - the third time they have done so in total.

In this fixture last term, Philippe Coutinho and Mark Noble were sent off in separate second-half incidents, though the latter's red card later was later rescinded.

In the Premier League, the Reds have won 23 of the 40 meetings between these sides, drawing eight and losing nine.

Fernando Torres is the only Liverpool player to have scored a league hat-trick against West Ham at Anfield, having done so in March 2008. Roger Hunt (1965), John Toshack (1976) and Michael Robinson in 1983 did likewise at Upton Park.

Vic Watson is the only West Ham player to score a hat-trick against Liverpool - he netted four in a 7-0 home win for the Hammers in September 1930.

Liverpool’s biggest home victory over West Ham in the league was a 6-0 success in April 1984. Ian Rush and Graeme Souness each scored twice, with the other goals coming from Kenny Dalglish and Ronnie Whelan.

James Milner's first ever game in senior football was against West Ham aged 16. He came off the bench for Leeds United as they claimed a 4-3 win over the Hammers in November 2002.

Liverpool have not won any of their last six home league games against London teams. The visits of Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal ended in draws, while West Ham and Crystal Palace (twice) have won on their last visits to Merseyside.

Liverpool are averaging almost three goals per game at home this season in league and cup, having scored 23 times in eight fixtures. Last season, their 23rd home goal came against Exeter in the FA Cup - Anfield's 18th game of the season.

The Reds are three goals short of recording 50 in total for the season.

West Ham have never before prevented Liverpool from scoring in three successive Anfield visits but could achieve that feat today.

All three of the Hammers' league wins this season - Bournemouth and Sunderland at home and Crystal Palace away - have been by a 1-0 scoreline.

Slaven Bilic's side go into this game 10 points worse off than they were last season at the same stage. In 2015-16, they had amassed 22 points from 14 games.

Bilic has won three and drawn one of his four games with Liverpool as the Hammers' manager. He also guided Besiktas to a Europa League win over the Reds in 2015.
