Liverpool will face Newport County or Plymouth Argyle at Anfield in the third round of this season's FA Cup.

The draw, conducted by Reds legend Steven Gerrard and Arsenal icon Ian Wright on Monday night, has pitted Jürgen Klopp’s side against one of the League Two clubs in January.

Newport claimed a goalless draw away to Plymouth in Saturday’s initial encounter between the teams, with the replay set for Tuesday December 13 at Rodney Parade.

The third-round fixture with Liverpool will be played at Anfield between Friday 6 and Monday 9 January.

The Reds have never previously faced Newport, but have taken on Plymouth 10 times in history.

The last meeting with the Pilgrims came in a Second Division clash at Home Park in April 1962, with goals from Alan A’Court, Ian St John and Roger Hunt securing a 3-2 win for Bill Shankly’s side.

Plymouth are currently in third place in League Two, while Newport are in 24th.
