On an emotional night in front of the Kop, the Reds were quite simply breathtaking.
Goals from Steve Nicol, Steve McMahon and Ian Rush put the Reds in the driving seat at half-time.
Gary Gillespie and Peter Beardsley then got in on the act before a penalty was awarded in front of the Kop.
Dalglish quickly sent on John Aldridge, who was playing his final game for his beloved Reds, and the Scouser duly netted to make it 6-0.
John Barnes then curled home a magnificent free-kick before further goals from Glenn Hysen and Nicol completed the rout.
