Jürgen Klopp addressed reporters at Melwood on Monday ahead of Liverpool's EFL Cup second-round clash with Burton Albion.

The boss discussed the Reds' transfer plans ahead of the window closing, and the possibility of making changes for the trip to Pirelli Stadium.

On the threat posed by Burton...

We analysed Burton and I have to say: the Championship - I like this league. [It's] another good team with perhaps not the best start but with spectacular results; the 4-3 v Norwich - an unlucky defeat. It's a nice story they wrote the last two or three years with getting promoted each year and that's really good. [They have] an experienced manager and a clear style of play, I would expect a 3-5-2 system that they played in the last few games.

On Liverpool's lengthy cup runs last season...

We had so many different line-ups so, in a few moments, I was surprised about our performance, to be honest. I think my first Capital One Cup game was Bournemouth at home, 1-0, Clyney scored the goal. This day, I was surprised by how good we were, we really deserved the win and we made a lot of changes. It was another situation then, and we took each game as a real opportunity for gaining a very good feeling and getting some selfconfidence in not the most easy situations. We had to make these changes because of the big number of games but this year, hopefully, we have another situation from the injury side. I like these games, that's how it is, even when I lost a few finals I always like the [journey] there and having the atmosphere around the final. I know about the quality of Burton because, with all our respect, we analysed them and know much more about them than before. But we have to show that we want to be in this competition, it's not about who comes from the Premier League or who is a Championship team. It's all about respecting the game, using the opportunities, working really hard, playing football, enjoying the game - all that stuff. A lot of these things I even saw last Saturday but at the end it was not enough desire in the last third. We had so many moments around the box where we could have made better decisions, and that's another thing that we have to do. I don't expect that we have 80 per cent possession again because Burton is another team and they play a little different, they are a real counter-attacking team. But to improve your game is a very important thing at this stage of the season.

On the development of Divock Origi...

Physically, he has made another step, so that's good. He is still a young boy but on the other side, there's no rhythm at the moment, as you can see. He came in in both games but it was a little bit late and, especially at Burnley, it was a hectic game. It could have been a game for a striker where you come in and score immediately but it was clear we could play another 20 hours and not score a goal on this day. He made another few steps in the right direction and now it's about gaining the rhythm to find the easy way to play football. He's not a very experienced player, even though he has now had a few good games, but he needs still to sort all his skills - because he is so skilled - so that he can use the right skill in the right moment. It's good to work together with him.

On decision-making in the final third...

We could have done much better [at Burnley]. We could have had more situations, more shots. We had a lot of shots but most of them came from outside the box. We did a lot of good things to [arrive] there, it was good, but in the end we made the wrong decision. [When] we need to shoot, we pass; when we need to cross, we shoot - or whatever. These things happen. In the end, there were one or two situations where we were unlucky - not too often - and two or three situations where we had too many players involved in the passing patterns around the box so when we were ready for crossing we had nobody in the box. That makes absolutely no sense. We had so many shots from outside [the box] and that's not a problem because they were so deep and sometimes you have to use it and try it. But it looked a little bit too early, kind of desperate, so you think why should we shoot now? We came a little bit closer in the second half, the goalkeeper had to make a few saves, but especially in the first half I think it was a big distance between the ball and the goal. You saw it, the first goal changed a lot, especially for us. This is not OK but it's an early stage of the season. The summer break [means] you can rest and you can train and you can work, but to create something like a real mentality in these games, that needs time. The first game was very good from this point and the second not - so what's the truth now? We have to carry on, we have to work on these things, which we will do 100 per cent, and stay calm and cool in these situations. I lost, unfortunately, a few games in my life and I think I should accept that I will lose one or two games in the future, too. There is no pressure in this moment, it's more a chance to take the Liverpool train in the right direction and that's what we should do and that's what we want to do in this moment. Both games that we played so far are very important for us. Nobody wants the information we got from Burnley but now we have it and we have to work with this too.

On learning from the first two games...

[We learned] different things from these two games. It doesn't feel good! It is over, I can't change it, but it's not that I thought it was a good idea that we played like this [at Burnley] and we have these problems. The first goal was too early and, the kind of [goal], you don't need. But development never works like you want. You have to take the knocks sometimes but, of course, nobody wanted it in this moment. Nothing more happened and maybe we can learn more from this game [against Burton] than Burnley. It was good [to have possession] but we have to use it better and we did it better already in pre-season, in the sessions, in a lot of moments last season. My job is, first of all, to bring the players in and around the box with movements, passing and show them ways we can use [to penetrate]. But in the end you have to make the decision yourself. We have the skills to make the decision but if we then don't use our skills anymore then it's not too good.
