It only took a couple of training sessions for Sadio Mane's new teammates to see that he would bring something fresh to Liverpool this season, Adam Lallana has revealed.

The winger was the Reds' star man as they thrashed Barcelona 4-0 at Wembley Stadium in their penultimate pre-season friendly of 2016-17, emphatically finishing off a well-worked opener, providing the assist for the second, and tormenting the Catalan outfit's defence throughout.

Mane's powerful strike beyond Marc-Andre ter Stegen may have been his first since making a summer move from Southampton, but his performances in pre-season have been packed with encouraging signs ahead of his first campaign at Anfield.

And Lallana has explained that Jürgen Klopp's squad have been getting just as excited as the fans thanks to what they have seen out on the training pitches.

"I knew straight away what he was about. I knew what he was going to bring to the team, regardless of what everyone has seen in pre-season," he said.

"You saw all those different parts against Barcelona but I saw them all in his first couple of sessions with us.

"We have seen it from working with him what he can do. I was never worried about him settling. He could have had a goal against AC Milan but it didn't matter.

"I could see what he was going to bring to this team. He is different to what we have got. He is unpredictable."

Mane's arrival means Klopp has some difficult decisions to make this season given the wealth of talent his squad possesses in forward areas.

But that is no bad thing, according to Lallana.

"Sadio can go down the outside, he can come inside, he has got a goal in his locker like he produced against Barcelona," he added.

"He's a very good addition to the squad, believe me. I think we have got loads of different players who can play loads of different positions.

"The manager has got decisions to make but it is great for the squad, to have that competition for places."
