Liverpool have been drawn to face Jürgen Klopp's former club Borussia Dortmund in the quarter-finals of the Europa League.

The German will return to the Westfalenstadion less than a year on from his emotional departure, after the sides were paired in Friday's draw in Nyon, Switzerland.

Klopp won two Bundesliga titles and the DFB-Pokal during a seven-year stint with BVB, but will be out to end their European adventure when he comes face to face with old friends once again.

The Reds last took on Dortmund in the group stages of the Champions League in 2001-02, earning a 0-0 draw away from home before winning 2-0 on Merseyside.

The sides' only other meeting in continental competition came in the final of the Cup Winners' Cup in 1966, with the Germans running out 2-1 winners in extra time at Hampden Park.

Despite Liverpool having never beaten BVB there, supporters will have good memories of the Westfalenstadion - the scene of their thrilling 2001 UEFA Cup final win over Alaves.

Dortmund will host Liverpool on Thursday April 7 before what is sure to be a memorable Anfield return leg on Thursday April 14.
