Roberto Firmino has explained how the atmosphere generated by Liverpool supporters in last week’s meeting with Manchester United was the catalyst for their 2-0 first-leg victory.

The Brazilian joined Daniel Sturridge on the scoresheet as the Reds secured a healthy advantage in the initial meeting of the Europa League last 16 tie.

And, as Liverpool prepare to head to Old Trafford for the second clash on Thursday night, Firmino revealed the noise created by the fans at Anfield has left a lasting impression upon him.

“No, it was the first time ever for me,” he told Goal.com when asked if he’d experienced such an atmosphere before.

“When we came out for the warm-up, the supporters were already singing loudly and that was so motivating to the team.

“They helped us with their passion to get a positive result. The fans were really going for it and that pushed us to also go for it. It was an incredible experience.”
