Liverpool's Wembley heartbreak on Sunday can serve as a crucial lesson for the future, according to Kolo Toure.

After a 1-1 draw with Manchester City in the Capital One Cup final, the Reds were denied the trophy as they lost the penalty shootout.

It was a harsh ending to a match that Jürgen Klopp's side had grown into as time passed, with Philippe Coutinho sparking wild celebrations when he equalised Fernandinho's opener.

But that disappointment has to be put to one side for the rest of the season insists Toure, who hopes the experience can become a useful one in the long-term.

He said: "It was a bad day and we all feel down because we could have won.

"To lose on penalties is very harsh. City have experience and calmness. Their goalkeeper did amazingly for them.

"When you come back like that, you feel as if you have the chance to win it. We had a few chances, they had a few chances as well.

"They have been in that kind of situation and you only learn by losing those sorts of games.

"You have to learn to lose sometimes before you win. We learn as a team together.

"The Europa League can save the season and the Premier League is not over yet.

"It will be tough at Anfield [against City on Wednesday] but we can get three points against them. We have plenty of important games coming up."
