After making a decisive impact as a second-half substitute at Stamford Bridge, Christian Benteke insisted Liverpool were fully worthy of their 3-1 win over Chelsea.

The Reds fell behind early on in the capital as Ramires snuck in to head home but Philippe Coutinho curled a sensational equaliser into the net in the final seconds before half-time.

Growing in belief that victory could be theirs, Jürgen Klopp’s team asserted themselves strongly in the second period and Benteke entered the action on 64 minutes with the score still level.

Within 20 minutes of the No.9’s introduction, he had helped tee up a second for Coutinho and driven his own finish past Asmir Begovic to stun the Blues.

“We deserved the three points,” the Belgian said.

“We didn’t start like we wanted but after our first goal, in the second half, we controlled the game and deserved to win at Stamford Bridge.”
