Jordon Ibe and Joe Gomez played key roles as England U21s got off to a perfect start in their European Championship qualifier with a 1-0 win in Norway on Monday evening.

The Liverpool duo played the full 90 minutes as a penalty from Southampton’s James Ward-Prowse gave Gareth Southgate’s side the victory on the artificial surface in Drammen.

Gomez was calm and assured at right-back while ahead of him Ibe was a constant threat down the right flank.

Ibe almost made it 2-0 in the second-half after a superb run but he fired wide of the target.

Sheyi Ojo and Jordan Rossiter both came off the bench as England U19s drew 1-1 in Croatia.

Ojo, on a season-long loan at Wolves, came on as a 64th minute replacement for Manchester City’s Patrik Roberts, while Rossiter featured for the final six minutes when he came on for Tottenham’s Josh Onomah.
