It was a frustrating evening for Liverpool U21s after they lost 3-0 to the Denmark U20 team at the Middelfart Stadium on Thursday night.

Michael Beale’s side also finished with 10 men after Alex O’Hanlon was sent off on the hour mark.

The young Reds played well in the first half. Jack Dunn went close with a free-kick and Ryan Kent fired an effort just wide from 25 yards out.

After the break, Dunn went close again when he saw his spectacular overhead kick brilliantly saved, before Denmark opened the scoring on a counter-attack through a deflected cross that looped over Andy Firth and into the net.

O’Hanlon was then shown his marching orders before the home side scored twice in the final 15 minutes to complete their tally. Their third goal came from a fantastic 30-yard direct free-kick.

Reflecting on the outing, Beale told Liverpoolfc.com: “It was a difficult night for us and overall the best team won.

“Jack was very unfortunate not to get on the scoresheet with two great efforts and I thought the sending-off was harsh.

“It was a good experience for the lads to play against the Denmark U20 national team and we gave valuable minutes to Jack, Ryan McLaughlin and Samed Yesil as they get back to full fitness.”

Liverpool U21s: Firth, McLaughlin (Randall 65), Maguire, Cleary, Brewitt (Polgar 65), Allan, Dunn (Sinclair 65), Brannagan (Marsh 65), Yesil, O’Hanlon, Kent.
