Madger Gomes scored a brilliant goal as Liverpool U21s came from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with League Two outfit Morecambe at the Globe Arena on Saturday.

After a goalless first half Paul Mullin struck two goals in two minutes to give the home side the lead, with the second effort coming from the penalty spot.

Samed Yesil then missed a penalty before Spanish youth international Gomes found the net with a stunning effort from 25-yards out.

Jerome Sinclair then fired Michael Beale's charges level when he netted his first goal of pre-season after connecting with a Sergi Canos cross.

Five minutes from time Harry Wilson went close to the winner but his effort was superbly pushed away for a corner.

Reflecting on the game, Beale told Liverpoolfc.com: "It was a really good game for us to play Morecambe's first team a week before the start of their season at their home stadium.

"It was a fairly even first half but it was really harsh when we found ourselves 2-0 down. Samed missed a penalty but Madger has got us back in the game with a fantastic strike.

"It was great to see Jerome get his first goal of the pre-season for us and we had chances to win it with Samed missing a great opening.

"The lads showed great character. Adam Phillips did really well for us in midfield and Sergi Canos and Harry Wilson were always a threat out wide."

The U21s now head to Switzerland when they play FC Luzern on Tuesday night who are managed by former Liverpool treble winner Markus Babbel.

Liverpool U21s: Firth, Whelan, Hart, Paez (Madger Gomes 55), Brewitt, Randall, Canos (Marsh 75), Phillips (Polgar 75), Yesil, O'Hanlon (Sinclair 55), Wilson.
