Steven Gerrard's brilliant 2005 strike against Middlesbrough has been named Liverpool's greatest Premier League goal by fans.

The midfielder’s long-range effort into the Kop-end net ultimately came out on top after we started an epic summer search to decide the very best of the club’s 1,601 top-flight goals in the past 25 years.

Daily votes were held on Liverpoolfc.com to find the finest of each season, before the five winners per week faced off for a place in the overall final.

Memorable goals by Robbie Fowler, John Arne Riise, Gerrard, Fernando Torres and Emre Can progressed all the way through to the final stage – and thousands of you have had your say on the No.1.

And it is Reds legend Gerrard who takes the prize, having accrued 42 per cent of the votes for his trademark piledriver past Boro at Anfield in April 2005, seeing off competition from Can in second.
