Steven Gerrard has played at countless stadiums throughout his remarkable career for club and country – but none can match Anfield in his eyes.

The Liverpool FC icon made history at the ground during his 17 years in the first team, captaining the Reds for more than a decade and leading the team as its talisman and heartbeat.

Passionate derbies, crucial games, knockout cup ties and dramatic European nights – the Scouser played, and starred, in them all from his midfield berth, earning the acclaim of the Kop.

Little wonder then that Anfield ranks higher than any of the world-famous arenas the Englishman has graced at domestic and international level.

“Anfield is my favourite stadium,” says Gerrard in the brand new LFCTV documentary This Is Anfield, set to premiere at 8pm BST this Sunday.

“There are bigger stadiums out there and there are some wonderful atmospheres, some giant clubs out there where I have played and enjoyed the experience.

“But all my memories and some of my best nights and best performances have been at Anfield. It will always have a special place in my heart.”
