Connor Randall was on target as Liverpool U21s drew 1-1 with Swansea City in a friendly at the Kirkby Academy on Sunday.

Michael Beale had the likes of Jose Enrique and Joao Carlos Teixeira in his team as the young Reds produced an excellent display.

Harry Wilson was also given some minutes before he returns to Crewe Alexandra for his loan spell.

Reflecting on the performance, Beale told Liverpoolfc.com: “It was a really good team performance in regards to how we controlled the game.

“The big disappointment again is that we are creating a number of top chances and failing to convert them.

“This naturally leads to some tense moments in the later stages of the game. The players coming into the team all did themselves no harm with their displays.

“Jose [Enrique] was captain for the day and was excellent, and did very well during the 60 minutes he played.

“Joao Carlos Teixeira and Madger Gomes were a constant threat and linked up really down the left with Jose.

“Harry [Wilson] returned to gain some match fitness and was unlucky not to score on two occasions when clear on goal, with the Swansea goalkeeper making excellent saves.

“We took a deserved lead through Randall who turned in the box to slot home on 50 minutes, but Swansea equalised after 72 minutes when a corner was not cleared and the ball bounced around our box before the Swansea striker swept the ball into the corner.

“We had big chances to win the game through Jerome Sinclair, Will Marsh and Joao.

“I would like to give a special mention to Kristof Polgar, Matty Virtue and Will for waiting for their opportunity and playing to a high standard.”
