Dominik Szoboszlai goes into Wednesday’s Champions League meeting with Qarabag aiming to achieve a rare goal feat for Liverpool in Europe.

The No.8 could become just the sixth Reds player to score in four consecutive European matches, following Roger Hunt, Robbie Fowler, Steven Gerrard (twice), Djibril Cisse and Mohamed Salah (twice).

Szoboszlai has scored eight times for Liverpool so far in 2025-26 – the same number he totalled in the whole of last season.

Here are more pre-match fact and figures from club statistician Ged Rea…

Qarabag will be Liverpool’s 139th different opponent in European competition. The Reds have never before played against an Azerbaijani club.

Of Liverpool’s previous 138 European opponents, there are only four clubs who they have faced just once – Alaves, Bologna, CSKA Moscow and Girona, with Liverpool defeating all four.

Liverpool go into the final game of the league phase in fourth place and a win will guarantee a place in the Round of 16. Arne Slot’s side could finish as high as third.

The Reds have won 13 of their last 14 Champions League group/league phase games at Anfield.

The last time Liverpool lost their final group game in European competition at Anfield was in December 2009, when they were beaten 2-1 by Fiorentina.

By playing against Qarabag, Liverpool will have faced a club in Europe whose name starts with 25 of the 26 letters of the alphabet. The only exception will be the letter ‘X’.

The Reds have failed to score in only seven of their last 54 European matches.

None of Liverpool’s last 33 group/league games in UEFA competition has finished in a draw, since the 1-1 result at Midtjylland in December 2020.

Slot’s team have kept three clean sheets in their last four Champions League outings.

Liverpool have never conceded more than two goals in back-to-back European fixtures at Anfield. They lost 4-1 to PSV Eindhoven on matchday five this season.

Szoboszlai and Virgil van Dijk have played every minute of Liverpool’s Champions League campaign this season.

Curtis Jones will miss Liverpool’s next game in Europe should he be yellow carded in this match.

Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong both played and scored against Qarabag for previous club Bayer Leverkusen. In 2023-24, Wirtz scored in the away leg of a Europa League last-16 tie, with Frimpong finding the net in the home leg as Leverkusen won 5-4 on aggregate.

Leverkusen and Qarabag had also met in the group phase, with Wirtz scoring in a 5-1 home victory.
