MatchThe opposition lowdown: Manchester United
Here is the lowdown on Manchester United ahead of their visit to Anfield to face Liverpool on Sunday.
Season so far
Ruben Amorim's side have had a mixed start to the campaign and entered the weekend occupying 10th place in the Premier League table.
They beat Sunderland 2-0 in their last match before the international break and have also claimed victories over Burnley and Chelsea.
Their defeats this season have come at the hands of Arsenal, Manchester City, Brentford and Grimsby Town, the latter on penalties in the Carabao Cup second round.
Key players
Summer signing Benjamin Sesko has two goals in his last two appearances, while fellow new recruit Bryan Mbeumo has also netted twice since joining from Brentford.
Bruno Fernandes has also found the back of the net on two occasions, and the United captain, Sesko and Mbeumo have featured in every game in 2025-26 thus far.
Goalkeeper Senne Lammens, who joined from Royal Antwerp on transfer deadline day, kept a clean sheet on his debut against Sunderland last time out.
Previous meetings
United left Anfield with a point on their last visit, earning a 2-2 draw at the start of 2025.
Lisandro Martinez opened the scoring before Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah struck to turn the game around.
However, Amad Diallo's finish in the 80th minute meant the spoils were shared.
Liverpool previously travelled to Old Trafford in September 2024 and delivered a statement 3-0 victory early on in the Arne Slot era, with Luis Diaz (two) and Salah scoring.

Checks will be made on the fitness of Noussair Mazraoui and Diogo Dalot, though Martinez remains out.
Amorim hinted Lammens was in line for another start between the sticks.
What they said
United head coach Amorim
"I know that it's special for our club, I know they are fighting all the time for the number of titles, I know what it means to the fans. But it's one game that we need to prove again that we are playing better. I think we are playing better, we need to do better in both boxes. It's one more game that we need to win.
"If you see the history of both clubs, you can see that sometimes you have one club that is winning, winning, winning [and] the other club is having a bad moment. That happened with Liverpool when Manchester United was winning everything, and that happened with Manchester United when Liverpool was winning everything. We just have to acknowledge that, to be really honest with the fans.
"But we can win any game. So if we think about just winning the next game, that is the most important thing."
Pre-match stats
United are winless in their last nine league visits to Anfield (drawn five, lost four) but have never gone 10 successive trips there in league football without winning.
Having beaten Manchester City last season, Amorim could become only the third manager to win both of his first two Premier League away games at the reigning champions, after Manuel Pellegrini and Antonio Conte.
Mbeumo has made 173 off-the-ball runs in the league this term, more than any other teammate. Twenty-six of those have been followed by his side having a shot – a league-high figure.
After netting in the 2-2 draw at Anfield last season, Amad could become the fourth United player to score in successive Premier League appearances at Anfield, after Andrew Cole, Carlos Tevez and Javier Hernandez.
