MatchThe opposition lowdown: Chelsea
Get the lowdown on Chelsea ahead of Liverpool hosting the Londoners at Anfield in the Premier League on Saturday.
Recent form
The Blues are currently sitting ninth in the Premier League table and 10 points adrift of the fourth-placed Reds.
They have lost each of their last six top-flight matches, the most recent of which was a 3-1 defeat at home to Nottingham Forest at the start of this week.
Calum McFarlane was installed as interim head coach for the second time in 2025-26 on April 22, replacing Liam Rosenior, and led the team to victory over Leeds United to secure a spot in the Emirates FA Cup final.
Key players
Joao Pedro leads the way for Chelsea in terms of goals and assists this season.
The signing from Brighton & Hove Albion last summer has found the back of the net 20 times in all competitions and set up his teammates on nine occasions.
Enzo Fernandez has played 50 games in the term to date, delivering 13 goals and six assists.
Tied for third on their scoring chart are Pedro Neto and Cole Palmer (10).
Previous meeting
The three points were earned by the Blues when the sides met at Stamford Bridge back in October.
Estevao's 96th-minute finish snatched the win for the hosts, after Cody Gakpo had equalised the first-half opener from Moises Caicedo.
Team news
Jesse Derry and Robert Sanchez have been ruled out of this fixture as a result of the head injuries they sustained versus Forest on Monday.
McFarlane also reported to the media on Thursday that Alejandro Garnacho and Neto are doubtful to face Liverpool due to knocks.
Levi Colwill and Reece James are pushing for involvement after returns to full training.
What they said
McFarlane, interim head coach
"The performances haven't been good enough. We are in a really bad run at the moment. The Leeds performance was a glimmer, where we thought we could build on that – and we weren't able to do that. But I do see these boys every day, every training session, every meeting; they are in a good place to go and attack games. We just haven't been able to translate that in the game on Monday. Hopefully we can improve that on Saturday."
Stats
Chelsea are looking to complete a Premier League double over Liverpool for the first time since 2013-14.
They have won just one of their last 10 league visits to Anfield (drawn five, lost four).
Each of Chelsea's last 12 Premier League goals against the Reds have been scored by different players (including own goals).
Joao Pedro has been directly involved in seven of the Blues' last nine Premier League goals, scoring six and assisting one.
