Two hat-tricks against Manchester United and one versus Everton would have been enough to earn anyone a place on this list.
But 124 goals overall and being a leading figure in a squad of back-to-back title winners ensured Dick Forshaw carved out an even stronger legacy in Liverpool FC history.
The Widnes-born forward joined the club a year after the First World War ended and would spend much of the next eight seasons putting the ball in the net for the Reds.
After two campaigns of relatively modest output, Forshaw played in every league fixture and delivered 17 goals as Liverpool finished top of the table by six points in 1921-22.
He was once again ever-present when a team who became known as ‘The Untouchables’ successfully defended their championship in 1922-23, increasing his goal tally to 19.
His most prolific season while at Anfield was actually his seventh, with 29 across all competitions in 1925-26 including 27 in the top flight – a third of the side’s entire total.
To the surprise of some, including Forshaw himself, Liverpool agreed to transfer the player to neighbours Everton in March of 1927 with him marginally shy of 300 matches and 125 strikes.
His wife was shocked and upset, too, reacting to the news: “I have never been an Everton supporter, and I don’t know what I will do about it.”
The couple were likely consoled by Forshaw teaming up with Blues legend Dixie Dean and winning another First Division – still the only player to do so with both clubs.
