Liverpool U18s were beaten 1-0 in their league meeting with Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.

Marc Bridge-Wilkinson’s team saw a three-game winning run in U18 Premier League North halted as an early goal from the hosts narrowly separated the sides at the Sir Jack Hayward Training Ground.

Centre-back Caden Voice provided the decisive moment with just four minutes on the clock as Wolves capitalised from a corner situation to grab the lead.

The Reds created several promising opportunities before the break and continued to press for an equaliser but were kept at bay by Wolves.

“I actually thought we played really well for a lot of the game, but they scored quite early on with the first set-piece, which gave them something to hold on to,” Bridge-Wilkinson told Liverpoolfc.com post-match.

“So although we had a lot of possession, we couldn’t quite find a way to score. We had some good chances first half but we didn’t manage to take one.

“And then second half it became a little bit more challenging and as the game got longer into it, we tried to change but we just couldn’t find a way through. A difficult game but lots of positives.”

Liverpool U18s: Mrozek, Gyimah, Samuels, Hayes-Green, Giblin, Pilling, Laffey, Kelly (Figueroa, 57), Young, Danns (Gift, 84), Kone-Doherty.

Unused substitutes: Hewitson, Pennington, Roberts.
