Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate captained France to victory against Azerbaijan during Sunday's World Cup qualifying fixtures.

The centre-back was selected alongside Reds teammate Hugo Ekitike to start for his country, who had already qualified from Group D.

Both players completed the full game as Les Bleus ran out 3-1 winners away from home.

Dominik Szoboszlai and Milos Kerkez, meanwhile, featured for Hungary in their deciding Group F clash with the Republic of Ireland in Budapest.

The pair each recorded an assist, though Hungary were beaten 3-2 by a stoppage-time effort and therefore narrowly missed out on a play-off berth in their attempts to reach next summer's tournament.

Szoboszlai had provided a low ball for Daniel Lukacs' headed opener, while Kerkez's cross found Barnabas Varga, leading to an impressive volley for his nation's second goal.
