NewsFabio Borini announces retirement from football

The Italian confirmed the news in a post on social media on Wednesday evening.

“I want to thank that kid who never stopped believing,” wrote Borini. “And the man I am today will keep believing in the next opportunity, this time without a ball at my feet, but with that same belief. Always.”

Borini joined the Reds during the summer of 2012, arriving from AS Roma.

He made 20 appearances across a debut campaign with Liverpool that was interrupted by injury, scoring twice.

Borini spent the 2013-14 season out on loan at Sunderland, before returning to Merseyside and adding 18 games and one goal under Brendan Rodgers.

He subsequently completed a permanent transfer to the Black Cats in 2015.

Borini’s senior career had begun with Chelsea, followed by moves to Swansea City, Parma and Roma prior to signing for Liverpool.

Later in his career, he also wore the shirts of AC Milan, Hellas Verona, Karagumruk, Sampdoria and Salford City.

He represented Italy at various youth levels and gained one senior cap for his country.

We wish Fabio all the best for the future.
