What are your feelings ahead of the new season?

Following the elation of our annual Premier League escape act, combined with the added bonus of sending Newcastle down, excitement was high heading into the off-season. However, feelings have turned to frustration and anger in the subsequent three months. Sam Allardyce was tempted away in a protracted process that seriously hampered our summer recruitment process, while fans’ favourite Lamine Kone is embroiled in a contract stand-off amid interest from Everton. Add in the fact there is still no sign of last season’s standout loan signing Yann M’Vila arriving on a permanent deal and Sunderland appear ill-equipped for the rigours of the season to come.

Are you satisfied with your club’s transfer business this summer?

In a word, no. Links with the likes of Marouane Fellaini appear fanciful given owner Ellis Short’s one-man mission to comply with FFP regulations and that reluctance to spend big despite the new TV deal means resentment towards the American is growing. The starting XI is still short of an established right-back and a creative central midfielder while there is a lack of back-up in key positions throughout the squad. Heaven forbid if Jermain Defoe picks up an injury.

How is your team likely to line up?

Mannone, Jones, Van Aanholt, Kaboul, Kone, Kirchhoff, Cattermole, Rodwell, Borini, Khazri, Defoe.

Have you got the right man in charge?

Yes. Losing Allardyce was a blow given the momentum built towards the end of last season, but Moyes appears a sensible replacement.

What do you expect from Liverpool this season?

In one of the most open Premier League seasons in years, I think Liverpool will struggle to finish in the top four. The two Manchester clubs, Chelsea and Tottenham all appear to have stronger squads, while Arsenal and Leicester will also fancy their chances.

If you could have one Liverpool player in your team, who would it be?

Jordan Henderson. An underrated player, the perfect role model for others and, of course, born and bred on Wearside.

Top four (in order)?

Man City
Chelsea
Man Utd
Tottenham

Relegated?

Swansea, Hull, Burnley

Who will be the surprise package?

West Ham. Slaven Bilic is building a strong, powerful side that will ride the positive impact created by their new stadium.

What is your one wish for the season?

For Sunderland to be better than simply scrapping to 40 points and to win the two league games against Newc… oh, hang on!
