What are your feelings ahead of the new season?

As always when it comes to August, I’m a mix of nerves, optimism and relief (that football is returning). I’m always fairly optimistic about how we’ll fare! Some difficult games in the opening four or five fixtures, but we looked really competitive under Klopp at times last year. He’s had more time to stamp his authority on the squad now too, so I think we’ll be fine.

Are you satisfied with your club’s transfer business this summer?

Broadly speaking, yes. We acted decisively when it came to some early recruits and the overall squad looks a lot stronger. Whilst a lot of fans may be slightly disappointed with the inability to fill some positions, not least when losing squad options there, there has been a massive improvement in negotiating when it comes to departing players. I imagine we’ll be looking to fill one or two roles right up until the end of August.

How is your team likely to line up?

Probably 4-2-3-1. Competition for the three roles behind a lone forward will be great and really put pressure on players to get amongst the goals to keep their place. Goals from midfield, with the exception of Coutinho at times, were lacking all too often last year.

Have you got the right man in charge?

Absolutely yes. I think you’d struggle to find anyone who thinks differently.

Top four (in order)?

City
United
Arsenal
Liverpool

Relegated?

Hull, Burnley and Swansea

Who will be the surprise package?

Middlesbrough – recruited well and have experience through the middle, Karanka looks a decent manager too. de Roon looks like a great piece of business for them in particular in terms of recruits and Negredo will return with a point to prove. I’m expecting them to stay up comfortably with a lower mid-table finish.

West Ham – won’t be a surprise as such, but I think they’ll kick on from last year. On the surface of things, they seem to have signed really well – Feghouli in particular is a great addition to an already fairly creative midfield!

What is your one wish for the season?

A top-four finish and some silverware. One of those would be good, both would be excellent.
