NewsZara Shaw wins LFC Women's Player of the Month award
Zara Shaw has won Liverpool FC Women's Standard Chartered Player of the Month award for April.
The 18-year-old claimed the most votes in a poll of supporters on Liverpoolfc.com to earn the prize for the first time.
Collecting the trophy at the AXA Melwood Training Centre, the Scouser reacted: "It's an amazing feeling, I didn't expect it if I'm honest. I've just enjoyed being back in with the girls and enjoying football again really.
"For the fans to recognise me and give me some appreciation is really nice."
Shaw returned from a lengthy injury absence in April to score an emotional match-winning goal at Charlton Athletic in the Adobe Women's FA Cup.
She stepped off the bench in extra-time of the quarter-final at The Valley and secured her side's progression to the last four by netting in the 115th minute.
It was her first outing for the senior team in more than 400 days, having recovered from the second anterior cruciate ligament injury of her young career.
"It was really, really special," Shaw said. "I think I've said it in every single interview I've done but it's a day I'll definitely never forget, I'll remember it forever."
Why you voted for Shaw...
Emily Moxam: Because she produced a moment of magic to take us to the semi-finals of the FA Cup.
Tom O'Brien: Great that she's back fit and she delivered possibly the best moment of the season v Charlton.
Mark Shaw: What a story.
Heather Prescott: Sometimes it's just about one magical moment.
Selina Keaveney: The winning goal at Charlton after a year out. What a perfect return!
