NewsWorld Cup: Alexis Mac Allister's Argentina advance after comeback against Egypt
Alexis Mac Allister helped Argentina advance to the quarter-finals of the World Cup after a remarkable comeback against Egypt on Tuesday.
Trailing 2-0 to the Mohamed Salah-captained Pharaohs in Atlanta, the holders scored three times within the space of 13 second-half minutes to win 3-2.
Mac Allister played all of the Round of the 16 encounter, which saw Yasser Ibrahim open the scoring inside 15 minutes and Lionel Messi have a penalty saved later on in the first half.
Following half-time, Egypt had a goal ruled out by VAR for a foul in the build-up but doubled their advantage past the hour mark through Mostafa Zico.
However, Cristian Romero's header with 79 minutes on the clock kick-started the turnaround and Messi equalised soon after.
Enzo Fernandez then netted the winner in the second minute of stoppage time.
Argentina will now feature in the last eight during the early hours of Sunday morning, taking on the victors of the tie between Switzerland and Colombia.
