News'We want to improve and we can with the quality we have' - Milos Kerkez

The Reds' third fixture of the 2026-27 Premier League campaign takes them to newly promoted Ipswich Town on Friday night.

While Kerkez and his teammates have avoided defeat in their opening matches, a tally of two points and four goals conceded fall below the standards they expect from themselves.

"Obviously not ideal, two points," the left-back said. "But if you take the negatives out, we didn't lose. So, it's alright but we need to start winning games.

"For us, especially as defenders, we want clean sheets and the target is you don't want them to score.

"So, we worked on that, we worked to correct those things in this week, so I think it should get better.

"We had meetings, we had video analysis for the defenders always. So, we want to improve a lot in that and we can with the quality we have."

In the clashes with Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest, Liverpool were twice behind in both but recovered to salvage a draw.

"We fight until the end – that's what we have in us, that is what this club is about," Kerkez continued. "But obviously in both games we had to come from behind and that's not ideal.

"So, like I said, we need to improve things in the transitions, in the rest defence and who's going to stay, who's going to go.

"Obviously we don't want to come back from behind – we want to start winning from the beginning."

Ipswich, meanwhile, have won one and lost one on their return to the top flight, defeating Sunderland on the opening weekend but then suffering a 5-2 defeat at Manchester United last Sunday.

Under new head coach Gary O'Neil, they signed 14 players in the summer transfer window.

Looking at the Portman Road encounter, Kerkez said: "I think obviously we're analysing everything, so we will know what to expect from every player, from the tactics. Every game we do, we come really prepared."

Liverpool have added Bradley Barcola to their ranks since they last took to the pitch.

The French attacker, who joined from Paris Saint-Germain on Monday, has already made a strong impression on the squad.

"He's a great player. Everyone knows him obviously," Kerkez finished. "He had two or three sessions, you can see the quality and potential still to improve a lot. He can be a really good player.

"Really fast, good dribbler, so I think he's going to help us a lot."
