FeatureWe Love You Liverpool: Meet Official LFC Supporters Club... Poland
Liverpool FC has more than 300 Official LFC Supporters Clubs (OLSCs) across 100 countries worldwide.
The Reds’ fan base is famous for its passion and loyalty, cheering on both the men’s and women’s squads whether on Merseyside or watching from afar.
Our We Love You Liverpool feature aims to bring supporters closer together to learn more about each other wherever they are based around the globe.
Here, we meet OLSC Poland...
Tell us about the OLSC…
Our OLSC was officially founded in 2008, but the tradition of supporting Liverpool in Poland goes back much further. The first fan club was founded in the early 1980s. A group of fans gathered around a Polish website dedicated to Liverpool, and after a few meetings, we decided it was worth starting an official fan club. We did it, and today we have around 200 active members across Poland.
How special is it to have the supporters club where you are?
The chance to meet people who share the same passion is special anywhere in the world. Sometimes Liverpool is the only thing that brings different people together, but over time, it turns out that this leads to wonderful friendships and unforgettable memories.
It must give you a sense of community and connection to Liverpool and the club itself?
We all take immense pride in being part of the Official Liverpool Supporters Club community. Also, having a direct line of communication with Liverpool FC is nice.
What is so special about supporting Liverpool for your members?
Definitely the sense of community, sharing a common passion, and the chance to meet up with other fans to watch the games together. In addition, Liverpool has a history and tradition that is truly unique.
What meet-ups or events do you hold?
Every year we put on a large event for Liverpool fans, one time in the south of Poland, one time in the north of the country. Our first national meeting took place in 2004 and just 12 fans took part in it. The second one had already 30 participants and now there are around 150 fans spending time together for three or four days each year. During the season groups of supporters watch games regularly in various cities in Poland.
Has the OLSC ever visited Anfield?
Yes, our members go regularly to Anfield. It’s just around two hours by plane, so we go to matches whenever possible. We even took part in football tournaments, which were held by the club at Anfield. That was a really big thing for us, as playing on the pitch was really an unforgettable experience.
What is your favourite memory together as an OLSC?
It’s hard to pick just one memory, because different moments matter to different fans. Certainly the championship titles and certainly legendary matches, such as the 4-0 win over Barcelona or the 4-3 win over Borussia Dortmund. For many fans, their first trip to a match is undoubtedly an unforgettable experience. Looking further back, we certainly have fond memories of the Champions League final in Istanbul and the 2006 FA Cup final, as those were among the first meetings for many of us.
