Liverpool U21s were beaten 3-2 by Ipswich Town away from home in Premier League 2 on Saturday.

Rob Page's Reds staged a spirited second-half fightback in East Anglia after trailing 2-0 at the break, but were then undone by an 84th-minute winner from Corbin Mthunzi.

Somto Boniface had put the hosts ahead midway through the opening period and was then joined on the scoresheet by Tudor Mendel-Idowu shortly before the interval.

The start of Liverpool's response came courtesy of Keyrol Figueroa, who replaced Jayden Danns on the half-hour mark, as the forward headed in to halve his team's deficit in minute 58.

Nine minutes later, the contest was level at 2-2, when Ipswich defender Leon Elliott inadvertently put into his own net.

The Tractor Boys would, however, reestablish their lead and keep hold of it this time, Mthunzi poking home the decisive goal in the aftermath of a set-piece.
