Liverpool U18s came from a goal down to beat Chesterfield 3-1 in a friendly at the Kirkby Academy on Friday.

The Reds threatened on several occasions during a first half that nevertheless ended goalless.

La’more Lee Forrester went close twice himself, cutting in from his right-flank position and being thwarted at the near post each time.

Next, U16 graduate Vincent Joseph’s run and turn allowed him to set up Isaac Konde, whose effort was blocked.

A good save denied Ellis Hickman after a burst through the middle and a Haydn Murray-Holme strike was deflected wide ahead of the break.

Both teams were reduced to 10 on 55 minutes, with Hickman the Liverpool player dismissed as a result of an altercation that followed a late Chesterfield challenge.

The visitors then took the lead via a close-range header from a corner, but a strong Reds response saw them swiftly turn the score around.

With 68 on the clock, Murray-Holme arced a brilliant free-kick over the opposition wall and into the top corner to equalise.

And a minute later they made it 2-1. A corner delivery found Harvey Owen at the back post and he put Liverpool in front with a headed finish.

Simon Wiles’ side added a flourish to the scoreline eight minutes from the end.

Half-time introduction AJ Yeguo bagged their third goal, cutting infield to complete a slick one-two with Joseph and supplying a fine finish.

Liverpool: Hall, O’Connor, Owen, Conde, Clarke (Garin, 46), Murray-Holme, Lee Forrester (Yeguo, 46), Hickman, Joseph, Farkas (Clarke, 67), Konde.
