AcademyU18s match report: Liverpool beat Swansea 4-1 in pre-season friendly
Liverpool U18s clinched a 4-1 win in their pre-season friendly versus Swansea City on Saturday.
Erik Farkas (two), Ellis Hickman and La’more Lee Forrester supplied the goals for Simon Wiles’ side at the Kirkby Academy.
Early pressure from the Reds saw Lucas Clarke’s headed effort from a corner kick well saved by the Swansea goalkeeper.
Soon after, Farkas was also denied an opener by a good save, having broken clear along the right-hand side.
The home team got in front on the cusp of the half-hour mark, though.
Farkas was the goal provider, collecting a ball into the penalty area, taking it around the ’keeper and guiding in his finish.
They threatened a quickfire second when Cam Williams attacked down the left wing and sent in a cross that narrowly evaded the arriving Zak Coxon.
At the other end, Liverpool goalkeeper Matty Wright produced two interventions to prevent Swansea from equalising, one pushed onto the crossbar.
Coxon fired an attempt against a post after the break, but the Reds’ ascendancy told with a burst of three goals in around as many minutes midway through the second period.
Hickman began the flurry by intercepting an opposition backpass and calmly beating the goalkeeper, and La’more Lee Forrester immediately enhanced the score to 3-0 with help from Finn Inglethorpe.
A lovely team move then concluded with Farkas grabbing his second and Liverpool’s fourth from Lee Forrester’s back-heel.
Swansea got a consolation 12 minutes from full-time, converting a penalty given for handball.
