Here are four things we spotted around the AXA Training Centre as Liverpool prepared on the eve of the Merseyside derby...

‘I stole your trophy, Mo!’

And the new…

Cody Gakpo was today crowned Standard Chartered Men’s Player of the Month for the first time and, boxed-up trophy in hand, he was applauded by perennial winner Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, Curtis Jones and Dominik Szoboszlai.

“I stole your trophy, Mo!” the Dutchman told Salah, who won the prize for three months in a row before Gakpo’s maiden victory.

A test of strength

Medicine balls have become a staple of Liverpool’s training sessions this season.

Their involvement on Tuesday was a little different, though, with lead physical performance coach Ruben Peeters issuing an unusual challenge to the players: can you throw one high and far enough to hit the ceiling?

See how they got on in today’s Inside Training.

Trent’s return

Trent Alexander-Arnold’s involvement in Tuesday’s session was, of course, a welcome sight.

He has missed the last two games after sustaining an injury during the win at AFC Bournemouth, but he joined his teammates in their matchday-minus-one session.

Naturally, the Scouser in our team knows plenty about the importance of the Merseyside derby. Here’s hoping he’s able to feature at Goodison.

Fine finishing

Gakpo, Salah and Szoboszlai completed their workout with a shooting drill, which tested their finishing abilities in several game scenarios.

It’s fair to say they looked sharp.
