Since its conception in November 2012, LFC Foundation's military veterans programme has engaged with 3,000 veterans each year to achieve positive and sustainable changes for its participants and their families.

Liverpool FC was the first club to sign the Military Covenant, a programme that has provided invaluable benefits to the physical health and mental wellbeing of veterans across the region through football-specific activity.

The considerable work from LFC Foundation and the club’s collaborative partners has enabled the programme to be considered the most successful of its kind in the country.

Regular and sustained activities include everything from football fitness at LFC’s Academy to health and employability events at Anfield. With 11-a-side fixtures against other military organisations, regular mental health awareness sessions, more than 40 boxing fitness sessions, and family fun days, it has provided vital support to more than 3,000 people in the last year alone.

A participant of LFC Foundation’s military veterans programme said: “If it were not for the lads on this programme and the support I received, I would not be here today.

“I went through army tours, a troubled marriage and break-up. Only the thought of getting back to being with the lads and part of something got me out of a bad place.”

Liverpool FC will welcome the attendance of LFC Foundation’s military veterans at the Reds’ remembrance fixture against Southampton on Saturday at Anfield.
