Liverpool’s U13s team advanced to the semi-finals of the Virgil’s Legacy Trophy tournament in the Netherlands on Saturday.
Reigning champions from the inaugural edition in 2025, the Reds topped Group B with two wins and a draw.
A goalless stalemate with AC Milan was followed by a 5-1 victory over FC Groningen for Michael Yates’ Academy squad.
Results elsewhere in the section meant Liverpool needed a win in their final group fixture, versus AFC Ajax, and they delivered it with a 2-0 success.
They will now meet FC Barcelona in the last four on Sunday, with Bayern Munich and Juventus facing off in the other semi-final ahead of the showpiece later in the day.
Virgil’s Legacy Trophy was founded by senior Reds captain Virgil van Dijk and aims to “empower the next generation” through “bridging the gap between youth academy dreams and the reality of the professional game”.
Yates’ Reds were supported by club icon Steven Gerrard in Tilburg on Saturday as 16 invited sides battled it out.
“It’s a wonderful tournament,” said Gerrard. “It’s a great occasion and it’s an absolute pleasure to be here.
“Football is about memories, it’s about experiences. These kids will take this experience with them for the rest of their lives.”
