Ceri Holland hailed a ‘special win’ after Liverpool beat Everton in the fifth round of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup.

The Reds defeated the Blues 2-1 in Sunday’s Merseyside derby at St Helens Stadium thanks to first-half goals from Mia Enderby and Beata Olsson.

Gareth Taylor’s side are therefore in the hat for the quarter-final draw on Monday evening and Holland, who played a key role in both goals by delivering outstanding crosses, told BBC Radio Merseyside: “I think we definitely had moments, we created some really good opportunities.

“It was a battle, it was a derby, but really happy to get the win, especially for our fans. I think it’s a special win.

“It’s a special competition and we want to do well in it and advance as far as we can. And we believe with the confidence that we’re playing with that if we play our way then we can beat anybody on our day. So, we’ll continue to work hard and improve.”

The Wales international continued: “I do a lot of work with the coaches on my crossing and I think it’s something that I’m trying to work on.

“I try to obviously put it into different areas that I know that players are going to attack and that’s what they did today so I’m happy with that.”

Liverpool have now won three consecutive matches across all competitions at St Helens and Holland added: “I think if you can get your home form good then it gives you a really good base to work from so we’ll continue to work hard.

“Obviously we go away now with the international break and then come back and we’ve got a really big month in March that we’re fully aware that we’ll have to bring our best to.”
