Liverpool FC Women can confirm striker Sophie Roman Haug is to begin a period of rehabilitation following a knee injury.

The Norway international was forced off in the opening half of last Thursday's Subway Women's League Cup victory at Durham.

A subsequent scan has revealed the 26-year-old has suffered an injury to her anterior cruciate ligament.

She will now begin rehabilitation at the AXA Melwood Training Centre and will undergo surgery in the coming weeks.

Roman Haug joined the Reds in 2023 from AS Roma and helped Liverpool to a fourth-placed finish in the Barclays Women's Super League in her debut season. She has netted two goals so far in this campaign.

Head coach Gareth Taylor said: "Of course this is the news we didn't want to hear for Sophie and we are all hugely disappointed for her.

"It's a really tough blow following on from the similar news about Marie [Höbinger] last week.

"But the main thing is making sure Sophie has the best of care and everyone at Melwood will be right behind her as she begins her journey back to fitness."
