Liverpool FC Women vice-captain Rachel Furness made history on Thursday afternoon as she equalled the Northern Ireland goalscoring record held by David Healy.

The Reds midfielder grabbed a hat-trick against North Macedonia in Skopje to take her international tally to 36 goals in a one-sided World Cup qualifier that ended 11-0.

Furness opened the scoring early on, earned and converted a penalty for her second, and completed her treble in the second period, before being taken off with around 20 minutes left.

It could have been even better for Furness as she had another penalty saved, but she may not have to wait long to break the record with the North Macedonians due in Belfast for another qualifier next Monday.

Elsewhere, LFC Women captain Niamh Fahey played the full game as Republic of Ireland’s World Cup qualifier with Slovakia in Dublin ended 1-1.

The Irish will also face Georgia at home next Tuesday, although they will be without Reds striker Leanne Kiernan, who had to withdraw from the squad due to a slight tightness in her hamstring.

Several other players are also currently away on duty for their countries during a busy international period for LFC Women.

The Reds have three representatives in the Wales squad with defender Rhiannon Roberts, midfielder Ceri Holland and striker Georgia Walters all selected for the home qualifier against Greece on Friday and the trip to France next Tuesday.

New Zealand Fern Meikayla Moore joins up with her team for two international friendlies against South Korea, on Saturday and Tuesday in Goyang.

Missy Bo Kearns and Taylor Hinds are away with England U23s for a training camp that will also include a friendly against Estonia next Tuesday.

Lucy Parry is part of an England U19 development squad who beat Norway on Wednesday and will next take on the Netherlands on Monday.
