To celebrate International Day of Persons with Disabilities (December 3), Liverpool FC teamed up with Paralympic bronze medallist Jack Hunter-Spivey to host a fun training session with local youngsters.

Under its Red Together programme, LFC’s employee disability network arranged a table tennis masterclass, coaching session and Q&A with Jack and a number of participants from LFC Foundation’s Premier League Kicks Inclusion Programme.

The young people were put through their paces by Jack, who taught them some top tips and tricks, which had served him well at Tokyo 2020 to win a bronze medal. Jack was also recently named as the Liverpool Disabled Supporters Association’s (LDSA) first sporting ambassador.

Jack said: “It was an incredible day just seeing some local kids put me through my paces, show me some skills and we've definitely got some future stars around here. Liverpool has been a lifeblood through generations of my family, so to try to work with the club and to do things for local kids in the local community is honestly a dream come true.

“The club runs through my life completely and just to be an ambassador for the Liverpool Disabled Supporters Association is absolutely incredible and it's such an honour to be the first ambassador.”

Rishi Jain, senior equality, diversity and inclusion manager at Liverpool FC commented: “It was fantastic to work with Jack and support the great work being done by the LFC Foundation. The club’s employee disability network plays an integral part in driving forward accessibility and inclusion internally and externally, so to mark a key date in the calendar with one of our local heroes – supporting the communities we operate within – is really fitting.

“Jack was incredible with the young people; it was clear to see how much they enjoyed meeting him and I’d like to think we’ve helped show them that there are plenty of pathways to elite sport for disabled young people.”
