Liverpool have the chance to set two goalscoring records when they travel to Newcastle United in the Premier League on Monday.

If the Reds score in this game, they will equal the club-best longest run of consecutive top-flight matches scored in (36 between March 2019 and February 2020).

A goal for Arne Slot’s team in the north east would also set a new outright club record, by scoring in a 22nd away league fixture in a row.

Liverpool have won five of their last seven away Premier League games against Newcastle, drawing the other two.

Overall, they are unbeaten in their last 17 league meetings with the Magpies (12 wins, five draws), since a 2-0 away defeat in December 2015.

The Reds have gone 1-0 down on each of their last two visits to St. James’ Park, but recovered to win 2-1 in 2023-24 and draw 3-3 last season.

Mohamed Salah has been directly involved in 18 Premier League goals against Newcastle (10 goals, eight assists).

The Egypt international has registered at least one assist in each of his last six appearances against the Magpies, the only player to ever achieve that against a club in the competition’s history.

Salah has either scored (four) or assisted (seven) 11 of the Reds’ last 15 Premier League goals against Newcastle.

Salah’s next goal will move him into outright fourth place on the Premier League’s all-time scorers list. He currently has 187 – only Alan Shearer (260), Harry Kane (213) and Wayne Rooney (208) have more.

Hugo Ekitike could become the first Reds player since Daniel Sturridge in January 2013 to score in each of his first three games for the club.

Liverpool have netted 90 goals in 39 Premier League games under Slot so far, an average of 2.3 per match. That is the best ratio of any Reds boss in the top flight.

Newcastle have won their first home fixture of the campaign in all three previous seasons under Eddie Howe.

The Magpies have won each of their last three Premier League games on a Monday to nil, although all of those victories came away from home.

Match report

The Reds have not lost their first away match in any of the last 10 Premier League seasons (seven wins, three draws), since a 3-1 defeat at Manchester City in 2014-15.

Liverpool have scored 124 Premier League goals against Newcastle. Only the Reds (125 v Tottenham Hotspur) and Arsenal (125 v Everton) have netted more against a specific opponent in the competition.

Overall in league football, only against Aston Villa (348 in 194 games) have the Reds scored more than the 317 (in 176 matches) against Newcastle.

Newcastle have won six of their last seven league matches at home, losing 1-0 to Everton on the final day of 2024-25.

Bruno Guimaraes was the Magpies’ only ever-present in the league last season and has played in each of his team’s past 65 top-flight matches.

Jacob Murphy has 10 goal involvements in his last 12 Premier League appearances at St. James’ Park (five goals, five assists).
