MatchThe opposition lowdown: AFC Bournemouth
Get the lowdown on AFC Bournemouth ahead of Liverpool's Premier League fixture at Anfield on Saturday afternoon.
Recent form
The Cherries head to L4 having won one, lost one and drawn two so far in league action.
Bournemouth opened up the season with a pair of 1-1 draws against Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United respectively.
On their last visit Merseyside, they defeated Everton 3-2 after a late comeback to earn victory, while they were themselves beaten 1-0 by Chelsea last time out.
Ones to watch
In attack, Antoine Semenyo has been a standout performer for the visitors having netted twice alongside one assist.
The forward also scored eight times last term, while fellow attacker Justin Kluivert found the back of the net on seven occasions in total.
Centre-back Marcos Senesi also provided a goal threat from defence, having been on the scoresheet four times across 2023-24.
Team news
Bournemouth will definitely be without Tyler Adams for the trip to Liverpool.
The visitors are also assessing the fitness of winger Dango Ouattara, who suffered an ankle injury when away with Burkina Faso.
Andoni Iraola can, however, welcome Kepa Arrizabalaga back into his starting XI after the goalkeeper was unable to feature against parent club Chelsea last weekend.
"The only one out 100 per cent is Tyler, that you know," Iraola said on Friday. "The only one I want to see if he can be available for tomorrow is Dango.
"Probably it is too early but Dango normally has very good recoveries and we will see today. He's probably the only one we have to assess today and decide. Everyone else is available."
Previous meetings
In the Premier League, Liverpool were victorious over Bournemouth on both occasions in 2023-24.
The Reds won the home fixture 3-1 in August thanks to goals from Luis Diaz, Mohamed Salah and Diogo Jota.
In the away meeting in the following January, a 4-0 victory on the south coast was recorded thanks to a double apiece from Darwin Nunez and Jota.
Liverpool also won a Carabao Cup fourth-round tie between the clubs 2-1 courtesy of a stunning strike from Nunez.
What they said
Iraola, Bournemouth head coach
"Normally not playing [midweek] is an advantage. But Liverpool are top athletes and we are probably going to face the most physical team in the Premier League. We have to be ready for a challenging game physically, but I think we can match them in this sense.
"I expect an open game. They are very good in transitions and we are also. There is normally spaces. We will have to defend very difficult duels, and I hope we can keep this level [from Chelsea] of defending one v ones."
