Niamh Fahey has paid tribute to teammate Missy Bo Kearns, who could reach a century of Liverpool FC Women appearances this afternoon.

Kearns, 22, is in line to play the 100th game of her senior Reds career when Manchester City visit Prenton Park in the Barclays Women’s Super League.

And Fahey believes the England U23 midfielder should be proud of her accomplishment.

Writing in her programme notes ahead of the clash with City, the captain says: “When I was told that Missy Bo could play her 100th game for the club today, my reaction was: ‘Wow!’

“It’s unbelievable that she’s reached 100 already. She’s Liverpool through and through and she’s such an important player for the club. What she brings is unique with being a Scouser and to reach 100 games at such a young age is fantastic so all credit to her.

“She’s developing her game all the time and really kicking on so I’m delighted for her.”

Looking ahead to the visit of a City side that is chasing the WSL title, Fahey said: “It’s going to be really tough but we have to keep building and progressing.

“City are a top side and have won their last 11 league games, which shows the size of our test. We got a bit of a drubbing when we played them away from home earlier in the year so we need to be at our absolute maximum because we know that if they’re on it and we’re not then it can become one of those difficult games.

“I think we’ve learned a lot and progressed since that last meeting so we’ll take confidence from our own strong form. We need to make sure that we go in there and are at our absolute maximum to try to get something from the game.”
