Marie Höbinger is excited by the possibilities that come with Liverpool qualifying for the Adobe Women’s FA Cup quarter-finals.

The Austria midfielder helped the Reds overcome a tricky challenge as they visited Rugby Borough in round five on Sunday afternoon.

With the score still goalless with 83 minutes gone, substitute Höbinger found the net emphatically with a brilliant right-to-left strike from outside the box.

Her breakthrough was followed by a Mia Enderby finish to wrap up a 2-0 win and Matt Beard’s side will discover their last-eight opponents on Tuesday.

On her strike and it being the kind of moment Liverpool needed to break through…

Yeah, I think it was a very tough game, we couldn’t really break their block down. It was crosses and shots probably, and I’m glad it went in.

On having to be patient during the game…

I think we could have been more dominant in possession and maybe created more chances. But it was a tough place to come to, very windy, the fans were brilliant. It was all about being patient. I’m thankful that it went in at the end, and then the second goal was obviously very good for us as well.

On Beard making four substitutions at half-time…

I don’t think [it was down to frustration], it was more tactical to have more bodies up the pitch. We changed to a back four and had an extra winger on the side. I think that helped, we could just adapt to the game a bit better in that formation. [There was] a lot to learn from.

On it being a day to just ‘get the job done’…

Yeah, it was a typical FA Cup game and I think it was all about getting the win. As I said, it wasn’t easy and we knew that before as well. We’re ready for the next round.

On it being exciting to have reached the quarter-finals…

We’re so happy we got the win and we’re all really excited to be in the next round. Good to get the win. Very exciting teams that we could play against and it’s always a bit more exciting to play in that competition as well, it keeps us all going and I think we have a lot to play for – everyone knows that in the knockout games.

On the support of the fans…

The atmosphere was so good. The home fans were amazing, they were really loud throughout the game, that made it of course also even harder for us. Our fans were singing the whole time, even when I was warming up. I think that gave me extra motivation to get the win for them as well.
