Sadio Mane struck a 98th-minute winner from the penalty spot for Senegal in Africa Cup of Nations qualifying on Tuesday night.

Having become his country’s all-time top scorer last weekend, Mane increased his tally to 33 at international level to defeat Rwanda.

His converted spot-kick deep into added time secured a 1-0 victory for Senegal, making it a maximum six points so far in the preliminaries for next year’s AFCON.

Elsewhere, Curtis Jones started for England U21s they claimed a 3-0 win over their Albania counterparts in qualifying for the U21 European Championship.

The Liverpool midfielder featured for 73 minutes of the Group G clash at Chesterfield FC’s Technique Stadium, with the Young Lions’ result clinching a place at the 2023 tournament in Georgia/Romania.

In the same preliminaries, Sepp van den Berg – who spent 2021-22 on loan at Preston North End – was on the scoresheet as the Netherlands beat Gibraltar 6-0.

They lead Group E by one point ahead of the final round of fixtures.

Trent Alexander-Arnold was an unused substitute for England’s senior side as they drew 1-1 away at Germany in the UEFA Nations League.
