NewsLucas Leiva opens Liverpool FC's third retail store in South Africa

Former Reds player Lucas joined local supporters to celebrate the launch, taking part in the ribbon-cutting and meet-and-greet while welcoming fans into the new store for the first time.

The latest opening further expands LFC’s presence in a key international market and it remains the only European football club with standalone retail stores on the African continent.

The new store opening builds on a record-breaking 12 months for LFC’s international retail team, marking a significant expansion of the club’s global retail footprint.

Over the past year, seven new stores have opened, four international kit launch events have taken place, three new markets have been entered, and two new retail partners have joined the network.

South Africa is home to 12.5 million LFC supporters, six million social media followers, four Official Liverpool Supporters Clubs and a cumulative TV audience of 36.6 million during the 2025-26 season.

The new Durban store follows the opening of official LFC stores in Cape Town and Johannesburg earlier this year, giving more supporters the opportunity to access official club merchandise and enjoy a dedicated LFC retail experience closer to home.

Located at the Gateway Theatre of Shopping – one of the world’s 100 largest malls with nearly two million visitors per month – the new store will offer the latest LFC x adidas kits and training wear, alongside a wide range of official fashion, accessories, gifts and exclusive club merchandise.

The three openings in the space of six months reflect the strength of LFC’s following in South Africa and the club’s continued focus on creating more ways for its international fan base to connect with it locally.

Lee Dwerryhouse, senior vice-president of merchandising at LFC, said: “South Africa has a huge and incredibly passionate community of Liverpool FC supporters, and we’re really pleased to be opening our third store in the country in just six months.

“Having a presence in Cape Town, Johannesburg and now Durban allows us to bring the club closer to even more supporters and give them a dedicated place to access official LFC products.

“To be the only European football club with standalone retail stores in Africa is something we’re very proud of and reflects both the strength of our support here and our long-term commitment to the market.”

The Durban opening forms part of LFC’s continued international retail expansion, with the club growing its network of official stores to bring its products and retail experiences closer to supporters around the world.
