Liverpool FC's Red Neighbours team were delighted to welcome more than 80 local pensioners from the Anfield area at Monday Club’s official Christmas party.

Hosted in the Reds Lounge at Anfield, residents from the local area were treated to a range of fun activities with a festive twist, such as bingo, a raffle and musical entertainment. And it wouldn’t be a Christmas party without a Christmas lunch with all the trimmings, prepared by Anfield’s chefs.

A surprise guest also made an appearance to the delight of the partygoers – former player Jason McAteer dropped in to spend time with the guests and share some stories from his playing days.

The popular Monday Club is a monthly initiative that aims to tackle social isolation by bringing together elderly locals and care home residents to enjoy an afternoon of socialising at Anfield.

Over the festive period, Liverpool FC has been running its Operation Christmas Magic campaign, which is specifically aimed at tackling food poverty and social isolation during the build-up to Christmas.

Brenda Richards, a key organiser of Monday Club, said: “The Monday Club is such an important group to so many in the local area, as it gives them the chance to get out and meet up with friends when many may be experiencing loneliness. You can meet so many new people. For me, it keeps me going and keeps me active, the Christmas party is one of many highlights throughout the year for us, it’s such a lovely event.

“We missed Monday Club for nearly two years due to it being postponed throughout lockdown, and we are so glad to have it back and all be back together.”
