Liverpool FC honours former women's manager Matt Beard
Liverpool FC is honouring former women's manager Matt Beard by unveiling permanent memorials that recognise his extraordinary contribution to the club and the lasting impact he made on players, staff and supporters.
Ahead of the first anniversary of his passing, on September 20, a private ceremony was held at the AXA Melwood Training Centre for players, staff and Matt’s family, where a memorial garden in his name – which will provide a quiet space for reflection and remembrance – was officially unveiled.
This was followed by the planting of a commemorative tree in his honour on 97 Avenue outside Anfield, creating a permanent place where fans can visit and remember his enduring connection to LFC Women.
Matt served as the club’s manager from 2012 to 2015 and again from 2021 to 2025, overseeing some of the most significant achievements in the team’s history.
Under his leadership, the Reds won successive Women’s Super League titles in 2013 and 2014, before securing promotion back to the top flight by winning the FA Women’s Championship title in 2022.
LFC has joined other clubs in supporting the Premier League’s ‘Together Against Suicide’ initiative, to raise awareness of suicide prevention and remind people that support is available.
The initiative brings clubs, players and communities together between September 4 and September 14 to use the power and reach of football to encourage conversations around suicide prevention and help reduce the stigma that can prevent people from seeking support.
The Reds’ home game against Fulham on Saturday will be dedicated to the Together Against Suicide campaign, and LFC Foundation, alongside the club’s safeguarding team, continues to offer specialist support and confidential advice to fans for Premier League and WSL fixtures at Anfield, following the launch of the Kicking Off Conversations hub last September.
