ClubLiverpool FC champions diversity in sport media with BCOMS
Liverpool FC is proud to have provided members of the Black Collective of Media in Sport with more than 500 hours of hands-on experience so far, equipping them with industry knowledge, connections and practical skills to support their career journeys.
The ongoing collaboration continues to create valuable opportunities for aspiring professionals from underrepresented backgrounds, fostering greater diversity and inclusion within the sports media industry.
On matchdays, LFC welcomes BCOMS members to Anfield and to the city centre office to shadow live matchday production. Beyond this, the partnership has grown to include paid roles for BCOMS participants – such as capturing footage at Barclays Women's Super League matches.
As part of this growing collaboration, members also had the unique opportunity recently to visit Anfield for an exclusive media masterclass. The day kicked off with an insightful behind-the-scenes panel discussion with members of the LFC media team, who shared their career journeys, advice and key insights into the industry.
Attendees then stepped into the shoes of journalists in a simulated press conference led by Peter McDowall, with former Reds defender Phil Babb in the hotseat.
The masterclass closed with a backstage tour of the LFC media department's operations and workspace, and a series of group breakout sessions focused on key media skills – including video editing, social media tutorials and camera tips and tricks.
Rishi Jain, LFC's director of impact, said: "We, as a club, are proud to work closely with BCOMS and have supported their work a number of times. Through The Red Way, the club is committed to building a better future for our people, planet and communities.
"Our collaboration with BCOMS reflects our dedication to fostering an inclusive, safe and welcoming environment for everyone who interacts with the club – a culture that we are immensely proud of."
Jack Badu, programme manager at BCOMS, added: "Our work with Liverpool this season has provided BCOMS members invaluable real-world experience. The support from staff at all levels has been exceptional."
As the relationship between LFC and BCOMS develops, the club looks forward to supporting the initiative's efforts to foster inclusivity in the sports media industry, contributing to greater access and representation for emerging talent.
