Press conferenceLFC Women team news: Bergstrom, O'Sullivan, Parry and more
Liverpool FC Women will have Alice Bergstrom and Denise O’Sullivan back available this weekend, but Lucy Parry is sidelined by injury.
January signings Bergstrom and O’Sullivan were not involved in last Sunday’s 2-0 home win over Leicester City in the Barclays Women’s Super League.
Parry, meanwhile, started that fixture but had to be withdrawn during the second half.
Head coach Gareth Taylor provided updates on those three, and other fitness situations within his squad, at his press conference to preview this Sunday’s 12pm GMT kick-off at Brighton & Hove Albion.
“We have Denise back for this weekend, which is really pleasing,” said Taylor.
“We’ve had her out on the pitch over the last few days. With her experience and understanding, that certainly helps when we haven’t got too many midfielders to call on.
“Lucy Parry unfortunately won’t be available for the weekend. She had to come off in the game against Leicester, as everyone could see, which is a shame.
“As to the estimated time to return, it’s really hard to know at the moment. It’s a bit of a shame for Paz because she got a good opportunity and she was looking fine within the game but sustained an issue.
“I felt like the substitutes did really well when they came on, because it’s never easy. Gemma Bonner stepped in and did great.
“Good to get Anna Josendal a little bit of game time at the end of the game – I think that was something that was really important for her. A big Liverpool fan, it meant so much to her.
“We’ve been waiting a long time for that one, we’ve had to be patient. But she’s building herself up in the right way and has now had a really good week of training, so gives us some options.
“Alice Bergstrom will train with the team tomorrow and will travel as part of the squad at the weekend.
“That’s really helpful that unfortunately we lose Paz, but we get Alice back and we get Anna Josendal a little bit closer.
“Zara Shaw is doing well. She just needs plenty of training and at the moment she just needs to build up her training load. But she’s looking good and she’s doing really well.
“Of course, the other ones are still quite a way from being back in with the team.”
