NewsLFC Women inspire the next generation at pre-season training camp

Thirty girls aged between 11 and 16 from Trefelin BGC were invited to visit the Reds squad at their pre-season training camp at the Vale Resort, where they had the opportunity to watch training, meet the players and coaches and gain a first-hand insight into what it takes to become a professional footballer.

Among those who attended included Janet Almond-Wood, a coach at Trefelin BGC, who was recently named Community Coach of the Year at the South Wales McDonald’s Grassroots Football Awards. She has since been shortlisted for the national award, with the winners set to be announced in September.

She said: “This has been a fantastic opportunity that Liverpool Football Club have reached out to us at while they are in South Wales. It gives our girls a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see what elite sport looks like.

“I know it’s a huge ambition to some of our girls here to play in the Barclays Women’s Super League. Visits like this inspire this generation of women and girls to push women in sport forward.”

This week’s camp near Cardiff formed part of Liverpool’s build-up to the 2026-27 campaign, which begins in early September.
